Scale and truth

This is my first posting on this site, I hope my postings add some small value to the general discussions in relation to the many dynamics ongoing in the world today.

It is interesting to observe how many people believe that truth only applies on a personnel level, yet when the same concepts are applied into the larger political or international arenas then the truth becomes malable and uncertain.

Nowhere is this double standard more on display than the shameful lack of understanding on the war on terror. If a thug or gang member was present in a neighborhood, threatning and assulting the residents, no one, not even most on the radical left, would question the rights or motivation of the local police force to move in remove the threat. If a policeman was shot or otherwise injured in the operation the community, the government, and the media would not only back escalated action but would very likely demand it. Would anyone (in proper mindset) believe that if the police decided that if they just didn't bother those pesky criminals then they'd all give up their life of crime and become model citizens. No, on a personnel level, everyone understands that a bully has to be stood up to and a gang using force must have force applied to stop them. Otherwise they will continue with escalating aggression.

Forward to the writings, speeches, and (to my taste) deplorable actions prevelant of the left and our media. None, when facing crime on their own street, would hesitate to have the police move in, and if necessary, use deadly force, to remove the threat. But when the subject moves to a larger scale, that of national neighborhoods they howl that the dictorial thugs, and terrorist gangs would become model citizens if only the military corps of civilized nations (the police) would pull back and leave them alone.

Lest someone think that this association applies only to aggression; try walking up to a liberal (friend, stranger, or John Kerry) and tell him to give you their money because you know someone whom needs the money far worse than they do. The expression recieved will likely be priceless (and they'll probrably be thinking 'where's a cop when you need him'; see above). Yet those same people will be glad to take a citizen's money via ever increasing taxes.

Different scale; different truth. Go figure
